Celebrities weren’t the only winners at this year’s Emmy Awards.

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) September 23, 2008 — GBK Productions hosted its annual Emmy Award gifting suite on September 18th and 19th, celebrating this year’s Emmy nominees and presenters. The Celebrities were not the only ones to be gifted. Global Green, Jump Start and Save the Tata’s also received a gift bag totaling over $35,000 and received 20% of GBK Profits. Everyone was certainly impressed with this suite that took place at the newly renovated Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood. A producer from the AP Press said, “GBK topped themselves again. GBK is always the best gift suite we attend.” One lucky celebrity also walked away with a $40,000 custom made pool table for their charity of choice, from Mars-made.

When Gavin Keilly, founder of both GBK Productions and the Official Celebrity Gift Bags LLC, launched his companies, he set out to make a difference in the world and to help as many charities as possible, and he certainly did that with this event. Save the Tata’s, a newly founded foundation, in particular was able to convince over 40 of the celebrities in attendance to help their fight, just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

GBK topped themselves again. GBK is always the best gift suite we attend.
As the celebrities entered the Mondrian, they had the experience of seeing and test driving Hybrid Technologies’ fantastic new electric BMW. They also received a fantastic offer off the purchase of their own hybrid, so they can do their part to live in a more eco-friendly world.

Celebrities who attended the suite received GBK’s exclusive gift bag filled with the newest tech gadgets, health procedures, elite fashion accessories, and spa products on the market including: beauty products from Beauty Contact & Cadillac Fragrance, Revitalash, Metropolis Flat Irons, 3Lab Skincare, and amazing soaps from Hollywood Skin Factory.

Many of the celebrities including James Pickens Jr. enjoyed the Kids room, which had toys from Leap Frog Enterprise, dolls from Jakks Specific, Teddy Bears from Jumpstart, and Wake up was on hand passing out their fantastic book collection…

Other Gifts included fabulous getaway weekends to the prestigious Waldorf - Astoria Collection, Dakota Mountain Lodge in Park City, the most fashionable purses and belts from Roughroses, the coolest jeans from Laguna Beach Jeans, free Lasik eye surgery from Gary Kawesch, Trapeze lessons from Trapeze New York, Booseh’s elegant t-shirts, Custom pool tables from Mars-Made, and much, much more!

A huge hit was the health and wellness room. 82 year-old Cloris Leachman absolutely loved getting on the Muscle FLEXTM and The Burn Machine home training equipment. Neal Patrick Harris was excited to see You Bar there, as he was already ordering his personalized energy bars from them. Kevin Sorbo said the EGO Energy Drink is great and he wanted to see about getting it out to his celebrity golf tournament. Lastly, many of the celebs, including Tim Daly, were very impressed with Dr. Buttar and what he is doing to make a difference in the medical community.

The Nominees and Presenters of EMMY’s also received a $5,000 Watch from Giantto, one of the most uniquely cut Diamond pieces of Jewelry from the Japan based jeweler ‘O.E.’, a $500 gift Certificates from Rock our World providing amethyst crystals, and various other luxury items.

As always, there was an ECO component to this suite. Envirosax provided the eco-friendly bags for the celebs to walk around with. For the celebs who have a baby in their life, Beco Baby Carrier gave away some the most fashion baby ergonomic baby carriers ever. Love Bottle made drinking a beverage a whole new experience with their eco-friendly glass bottles. M.Carlesimo was on hand with their great smelling soy candles. Woody Industries displayed their luxury home units, Eureka Envirovac was a huge hit too with their eco-friendly vacuums to help keep the celebrities home clean, and finally everyone loved Derrich J’s Fantastic eco-friendly jewelry!

In the Lounge, there was an opportunity to grab a beverage from Fully Loaded Tea. Aqua Mantra and EGO Energy. A huge hit was the Gold Plated Faberge Egg with a carafe inside, filled to the brim with premium grain Imperial Collection vodka and shot glasses. Keurig also served coffee and gave the celebs their machines to take home with them. The Hand Analysis told the celebs what their true calling was, and Essential Chocolates had an array of spectacular desserts that everyone, including the press, loved.

Randy Jackson had a great time in the ‘Dog’ room, as he got hooked up by Dog is Good, Got Grub, and House of Dog.

In addition to GBK’s coveted gift selection, all guests were privy to a variety of on-site spa treatments. Emmy winner Jean Smart certainly took advantage of some of the treatments and loved them. Some of the treatments in the suite included: Body Beautiful’s “Universal Contour Wrap” experience, hair cuts and blow dry’s from renowned hair artist Patrick Theohar of 9022 Salon, hydrafacial or eyelash extensions from Bella Beverly Hills, manicures by Superstar Nail Lacquer, on-site massages from the Massage Spot, Spray Tans from Sunset Tan & Infinity Sun and more.

Imagine a superfood — not a drug — powerful enough to help you lower your cholesterol, reduce your risk of heart disease and cancer, and, for an added bonus, put you in a better mood. Did we mention that there are no side effects? You’d surely stock up on a lifetime supply. Guess what? These life-altering superfoods are available right now in your local supermarket.

“The effect that diet can have on how you feel today and in the future is astounding,” says nutritionist Elizabeth Somer, author of Nutrition for aHealthy Pregnancy, Food & Mood, and The Essential Guide to Vitamins and Minerals.

“Even people who are healthy can make a few tweaks and the impact will be amazing,” Somer says. “I’d say that 50% to 70% of suffering could be eliminated by what people eat and how they move: heart disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension can all be impacted.”

You don’t need specific foods for specific ailments. A healthy diet incorporating a variety of the following superfoods will help you maintain your weight, fight disease, and live longer. One thing they all have in common: “Every superfood is going to be a ‘real’ (unprocessed) food,” Somer points out. “You don’t find fortified potato chips in the superfood category.”

Top Superfoods Offering Super Health Protection

* Beans
* Blueberries
* Broccoli
* Oats
* Oranges
* Pumpkin
* Salmon
* Soy
* Spinach
* Tea (green or black)
* Tomatoes
* Turkey
* Walnuts
* Yogurt

Blueberries — Antioxidant Superfood

Packed with antioxidants and phytoflavinoids, these berries are also high in potassium and vitamin C, making them the top choice of doctors and nutritionists. Not only can they lower your risk of heart disease and cancer, they are also anti-inflammatory.

“Inflammation is a key driver of all chronic diseases, so blueberries have a host of benefits,” says Ann Kulze, MD, of Charleston, S.C., author of Dr. Ann’s 10-Step Diet, A Simple Plan for Permanent Weight Loss & Lifelong Vitality. When selecting berries, note that the darker they are, the more anti-oxidants they have. “I tell everyone to have a serving (about 1/2 cup) every day,” Dr. Kulze says. “Frozen are just as good as fresh.” Be sure to include lots of other fruits and vegetables in your diet as well. Remember too that, in general, the more color they have, the more antioxidants.
Omega 3-Rich Fish — Superfoods for the Heart, Joints, and Memory

“We know that the omega 3s you get in fish lower heart disease risk, help arthritis, and may possibly help with memory loss and Alzheimer’s,” Somer says. “There is some evidence to show that it reduces depression as well.”

Omega-3s are most prevalent in fatty, cold-water fish: Look for wild (not farmed) salmon, herring, sardines, and mackerel. Aim for two-to-three servings a week. Other forms of omega 3s are available in fortified eggs, flax seed, and walnuts. These superfoods have the added benefit of being high in monounsaturated fats, which can lower cholesterol.Soy — Superfood to Lower Cholesterol

A study reported in The Journal of the American Medical Association (2003) showed that a diet of soy fiber, protein from oats and barley, almonds, and margarine from plant sterols lowered cholesterol as much as statins, the most widely prescribed cholesterol medicine. “Look for tofu, soy milk, or edamame — not soy powder,” says Somer. In other words, soy sauce won’t do the trick. One caveat: If you have a family history of breast cancer it is not recommended that you eat extra soy.
Fiber — Superfood Aids Weight Loss and Checks Cholesterol

A diet high in fiber will help you maintain healthy cholesterol and blood sugar levels. As a bonus, because fiber helps you feel full longer, it’s a great tool in weight management. Whole grains, beans, fruit, and vegetables are all good sources. Try throwing some beans in your salad, recommends Kulze. “Fresh, frozen, or dried are the best. You can use canned, but they tend to be higher in sodium,” Kulze warns.
Tea — Superfood for Lowering Cholesterol and Inhibiting Cancer

“The overall antioxidant power of black tea is the same as green tea,” says Kulze, “but green tea does have ECGC, a powerful antioxidant that we really do think is quite special.” A recent Japanese study on green tea found that men who drank green tea regularly had lower cholesterol than those who didn’t. Researchers in Spain and the United Kingdom have also shown that ECGC can inhibit the growth of cancer cells. For a double health whammy, replace sugary sodas with tea.
Calcium

OK, OK, you know the drill: Calcium helps build strong bones and prevents osteoporosis. Look for it in dairy products or supplements. Added bonus: Some studies show that calcium helps with weight loss. Here are the calcium levels recommended for adults by the USDA:

* Age 9 to 18 — 1,300 mg
* Age 19 to 50 — 1,000 mg
* Age 51 and over — 1,200 mg

And Finally, the Yummiest Superfood Yet … Dark Chocolate

New research has shown that dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants and can lower blood pressure. Kulze recommends that you look for chocolate with 60% or higher cocoa content; the darker, the better. In addition, the darker it is, the lower the fat and sugar content. Now that’s our kind of health food!

You can’t convince utility companies that power lines cause brain cancer in children. And you’ll never convince Big Pharma scientists that there’s any danger whatsoever to their profitable vaccines.

(NaturalNews) The Public Health Council in New Jersey has voted to require all children attending preschool or daycare to be injected with not just one vaccine, but four different vaccines. If this rule goes into effect — and political momentum is certainly in its favor — New Jersey would be the first U.S. state to make the vaccination of children required by law. This means that those parents who refuse to participate in such vaccination programs would be labeled “criminals” and arrested at gunpoint.

The health experts in New Jersey backing these vaccines claim there’s absolutely no evidence showing that the chemicals used in the vaccines — which include trace amounts of neurotoxic mercury — are in any way harmful or linked to autism. These are the same people, of course, who say that mass fluoridation of public water supplies with a toxic waste chemical misnamed “fluoride” is also perfectly safe. And mercury dental fillings are safe, too, if you can believe that. In fact, there’s hardly a chemical or heavy metal being used in public health today that isn’t safe enough to be injected into the bodies of children, if you believe these so-called health “experts.”

What they don’t seem to recognize is that virtually every study conducted on the “safety” of these chemicals has been fraudulently conducted and influenced by industry. It is in the interests of powerful corporations (drug companies and chemical manufacturers) to keep the public hoodwinked over the dangers of toxic chemicals. So even though any rational person taking a look at the data can see a link between autism and vaccines, Big Pharma has managed to pull enough strings to keep the people in power parroting their standard excuse: “There’s no convincing evidence linking autism and vaccines.”

In reality, there’s plenty of evidence. It’s just not convincing to them. Nothing would be. You can’t convince tobacco companies that nicotine is addictive, either. You can’t convince utility companies that power lines cause brain cancer in children. And you’ll never convince Big Pharma scientists that there’s any danger whatsoever to their profitable vaccines.

But the truth is that the potential dangers of these mandatory vaccination policies are not really known to anybody. It’s only after the fact — after thousands of children are harmed by these chemicals — that the evidence becomes so overwhelming that health officials finally adopt some common sense and back off the policies. In the mean time, New Jersey is really just mandating the medical experimentation on children with vaccines that may later turn out to be far more dangerous than they thought.

Abstract

The determination of toxic metals in the biological samples of human beings is an important clinical screening procedure. This study aimed to assess the possible influence of environmental exposure on production workers (PW) and quality control workers (QCW) of a steel mill, all male subjects aged 25-55 years. In this investigation, the concentrations of Pb, Cd, Ni and Cr were determined in biological samples (blood, urine and scalp hair samples) from these steel mill workers in relation to controlled unexposed healthy subjects of the same age group. After pre-treatment with nitric acid-hydrogen peroxide, the samples were digested via a microwave oven, and for comparison purposes, the same samples were digested by the conventional wet acid digestion method. The samples digested were subjected to graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). To assess the reliability of these methods, critical factors, such as detection limit(s), calibration range(s), accuracy and precision, were studied. Quality control for these procedures was established with certified sample of human hair, urine and whole blood. The results indicate that the level of lead, cadmium and nickel in scalp hair, blood and urine samples were significantly higher in both groups of exposed workers (QW and PW) than those of the controls. The possible connection of these elements with the etiology of disease is discussed. The results also show the need for immediate improvements in workplace ventilation and industrial hygiene practices.

Extracts

Introduction

Human biomonitoring for toxic metals continues to receive considerable attention as the effort to reduce the uncertainty in health risk assessment increases. The primary goal of biomonitoring studies is to evaluate human exposure by comparing the measured concentrations of toxic elements with those of control groups or with literature-based ‘background’ values. Thus, in the assessment of health risk, the knowledge of reference values (RVs) in human tissues and fluids provides a meaningful insight into the extent of the exposure, and is of fundamental importance in environmental pollution control. A number of heavy metals as well as dust fumes and gases are found in these working environments. The exposure may have both acute and long term effects.

Cadmium, lead and nickel are toxic metals with a long history of detrimental effects. Exposure to these toxic metals is common in industry, where the metals are used in a wide range of manufacturing processes. The presence of heavy metals, such as Pb and Cd, replaces Ca and Zn, respectively, by competition with binding sites in biological systems. It is also known that these toxic metals and their compounds can be toxic if their concentrations exceed certain limits (Smith-Sivertsen et al., 1997). …

Cadmium exposure has been associated with many physiological disorders, such as hypertension, and many studies show that hair levels of Cd in hypertensive patients are higher than controls (Engvall et al., 1985). The Cd concentration in urine (U-Cd) is mainly influenced by the body burden, being proportional to the kidney concentration. The urine level of cadmium is also a good measure of body stores (Lauwerys et al., 1994). Cigarette smokers and people living in contaminated areas have higher level of Cd in blood and urine, but smokers have more than twice as high concentration as non-smokers. Blood-Cd generally reflects current exposure, but partly also lifetime body burden (Waalkes et al., 1992; Jarup et al., 1998).

Although the role of Cr and Ni as essential trace elements in humans is no longer debated, the interest in these metals is mainly dictated by their noxious potential as industrial and environmental pollutants. Individual Ni exposure, in turn, seems also to be associated with the level of urbanisation. This may be traced back to Ni content in automobile exhausts and bitumen, the main component of asphalt. Nickel occurs also in road dust; Ni containing particles may thus easily make their way into the respiratory tract. Nickel accumulates with age and smoking, perhaps explaining why tissue levels are highest in patients who died of cardiovascular disease. Nickel’s ability to cause contact dermatitis, and its observed perturbation of immunoglobulin levels was investigated that elevated levels of nickel in hair may serve as an indicator of possible immune dysfunction, as well as a potentially useful marker of cardiovascular problems (Vienna et al., 1995).

Occupational exposure to chromium occurs from chromate and stainless-steel production, chromeplating, and working in tanning industries; occupational exposure can be two orders of magnitude higher than exposure to the general population (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, 1998). The trivalent Cr is the more common form. However, the hexavalent form, such as chromate compound, is of great industrial importance. The major source of Cr is from chromites ore. Metallurgical grade chromite is usually converted into one of several types of ferrochromium or other Cr alloy containing Co or Ni. Ferrochrome is used in the production of stainless steel. Over review of Cr exposures and health effect have been reviewed (WHO, 1998).

Scalp hair and urine samples are easily sampled and provide a useful indicator of exposure to toxic and heavy metals for several diseases. Blood analysis is also important to monitor the immediate effects of environmental exposure.

Hair has the potential of being an excellent biomonitor due to its historical representation of intake over prior weeks to years, depending on its unique features, hair can also be utilised for investigating the exposure of individuals or populations to toxins and pollutants, such as heavy metals (Bencko, 1995; Martin et al., 2005). Its popularity lies in the fact that it can be collected easily and non-traumatically and can be stored easily. Most trace elements have higher concentration in hair than other body compartment, which helps in the analytic process (IAEA Review, 1994). Profiling for toxic metals has been used to identify the origins of exposure to mercury (Toribara, 2001) or monitoring medical treatments (Nicolis et al., 2000). Many studies have shown a correlation between heavy metals concentration in hair and blood (Chlopicka, 1998). Significant elevations of toxic element levels are also observed in human hair, particularly cadmium, lead, and nickel (Chattopadhyay et al., 1990; Wolfsperger et al., 1994).

The standard clinical procedure for the measurement of toxic elements in biological samples is very simple and is based on the use of highly sensitive GFAAS instrumentation. Several analytical techniques have been commonly used for heavy metals in blood measurement. The recommended method is graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) (Parsons et al., 1993; Mido et al., 1995; Zhang et al., 1997).

The biological monitoring of toxic metals in biological samples has become a matter of wide interest owing to the toxicity of these metals and their influence in controlling the course of biological processes. Karachi is the most important metropolitan city of Pakistan, having many big industrial areas, and it is also the most affected by air pollution and industrial wastes (most of the pollutants being heavy metals), which are detrimental to human health. The aim of this study was to investigate the concentration of cadmium, chromium, lead and nickel in the biological samples (scalp hair, blood and urine) of long-term exposed steel production (PW) and quality control (QCW) workers to evaluate the degree of their exposure in these working environments. The obtained results have been compared with those of same age groups, healthy persons not exposed to industrial environmental pollution. The tissue concentrations related to a number of other variables, eg, age, employment time, health and habits (smoking or chewing tobacco) have been studied. These data can provide guiding references to occupational diseases and pollution control. …

Results and discussion

Heavy metals of considerable toxicological importance pose a challenge for authorities in the public health and industrial hygiene sectors. A number of heavy metals, as well as dust, fumes and gases, are found in these working environments. The exposure may have both acute and long term health effects (Mikac-Devic et al., 1977).

Heavy metal toxicity generally results in gastrointestinal irritation, renal toxicity and multi-organ toxicity. Gastrointestinal irritation is the most common complaint, and may manifest as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Renal toxicity is the second most common adverse event, and may be caused by acute and subacute exposure to heavy metals. On the other hand, interstitial nephritis is more likely cause by chronic exposure to heavy metals. Multi-organ toxicity may affect the skin and central nervous system as well (Adeloju et al., 1985). …

Conclusions

We have established the analytical procedure to determine lead, chromium, cadmium, and nickel in biological samples (blood, urine and scalp hair) by a technique that is not only easier to follow and less expensive to run, but also more rapid and accurate than other techniques, thus providing a useful tool to screen large number of individuals that are at a risk of exposure to these and perhaps other metals.

The results show that in steel production, the workers assigned to the production and QC areas are indeed exposed to these metals, presenting significantly elevated levels in all three biological samples when compared to normal controls. The significantly high level of all these metals under consideration was observed with respect to duration of exposure. This suggests the need for immediate improvement of workplace ventilation and industrial hygiene practices.

(CBS) - Some parents are spending a lot of money on a new controversial treatment for autism. Doctors say it’s not medically proven to help.

Dinnertime in the Conte household is a family affair.

Eight-year-old triplets Louie, Sam and Thomas all pitch in to help, but for Sam and Thomas, who are autistic, even setting the table is difficult.

“The struggle is so hard every day,” said their mother Andrea Conte.

But she said lately it’s been getting easier with the help of alternative therapies including an unproven treatment called “chelation.”

Sam and Thomas are given drugs which bind to metals in their blood and help flush them out.

“Some of the metals coming out of their body, especially the lead, were just off the charts,” said Conte.

Chelation has long been used to treat lead poisoning but now some are applying it to autism based on a theory that metals, including mercury from vaccines, contribute to the condition.

“Verbal skills are the first that we see,” said Pediatrician Giuseppina Feingold. “Improvements in eye contact, cooperation.”

An IV delivers the strongest dose of chelation right to the bloodstream but it can also be given orally or even through a cream.

Still the treatment remains relatively new and very controversial.

Dr. Barry Kosofsky believes potential side effects like rashes and blood complications are too risky to justify any possible benefits.

“These desperate parents will take money that they often don’t have to spend on such therapies which are experimental at best, and likely not to work,” said Kosofsky.

Still, the Contes insist they see real gains, and say any signs of improvement are better than none.

RALEIGH, NC - As part of his continuing health series, John C. Pittman, MD, of The Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine (CCIM), will present “Examining the Dangers of Mercury Toxicity” on Tuesday, August 19 from 7:00-8:00pm at CCIM’s office at 4505 Fair Meadow Lane, Suite 111 in Raleigh. This free, public health presentation will uncover the causes and symptoms of mercury toxicity and will discuss the treatments currently available.

From the air we breathe to the water we drink and the food we eat, mercury seems to be everywhere; therefore, it is almost impossible to avoid exposure to this harmful agent. Symptoms of mercury toxicity may easily be overlooked, or worse, underestimated and include insomnia, nervousness, memory loss, dizziness, depression, fatigue, and muscle weakness.

Dr. Stephen B. Edelson, of The Edelson Center for Environmental & Preventative Medicine, wrote in his online article entitled “Heavy Metal Toxicity”, “It should be noted that many chronic symptoms go undiagnosed because mainstream physicians are not familiar with chronic mercury toxicity, and most even doubt its existence.”

Dr. Pittman and The Carolina Center use Chelation therapy to treat patients diagnosed with mercury toxicity, administering the chelating drugs EDTA and DMPS according to nationally standardized protocols. These chelating drugs have been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of toxicity conditions from various heavy metals and anecdotal as well, as clinical studies have also shown EDTA to reduce arterial plaque associated with vascular disease. According to Dr. Pittman, patients who receive Chelation therapy are reported to have experienced increased energy levels, improved sleep, reduction in food cravings, improved ability to cope with stress, and a feeling of youthfulness and vitality.

Although Chelation has been an effective method of treating lead and other heavy metal toxicity, researchers began to take note of its other effects. “EDTA has been shown to remove radioactive substances in acute radiation poisoning, lower blood cholesterol levels, and has had beneficial effects in the treatment of arthritis and other autoimmune disorders,” notes Dr. Pittman, adding, “It is this effect that often leads heart patients to seek this kind of therapy over conventional pharmaceutical and surgical treatments.”

Advanced registration is required in case of cancellation. To register, contact the Carolina Center at (919) 571-4391 or via e-mail at register@carolinacenter.com

A new research has established that some special genes are responsible for the Study: Gene Raises Risk Of Lifetime Smoking Habitdevelopment of smoking habit. These genes can also increase the risks of lung cancer in human being.

The research on genes and smoking habits is concluded by of the University of Michigan Medical School. The research is done on 435 people who are either habitual of smoking or tried smoking in their life.

The research has further revealed that genetic factors are responsible for nicotine addiction and lung cancer in human beings. The research team has found three genes called nicotine receptor genes, which control the entry of nicotine into the brain cells. The smokers with such genes are more prone to develop lung cancer and respiratory diseases. The genetic make up decides the next action of nicotine on the human body.

The team of Canadian researchers had done experiments on rates and generalized for human beings. Ovide Pomerleau of the research team said that the research will help in the development of treatment plan of nicotine addiction and tests to assess addiction risks.

Smoking is a leading cause of cancer deaths in the world. It is a second leading cause of cancer death among women. The study was published in the journal Addiction on August 8.

Getting ready to buy drinking water filters? That’s a great decision. Some people believe that a drinking water filter for their home is not a necessary expense. This is difficult to believe because they are not expensive, at all.

Drinking water filters are far less expensive than a personal computer or a television set. But, many people feel that those are “necessary” items. It is rare to find a household these days without a TV and a computer, but it’s just as rare to see a house with a drinking water filter or filtration system.

Scientists and environmental groups keep warning governments about the dangers of chlorination, but the dangers of not chlorinating are real too. During the outbreak of cholera in Peru in 1991, health experts strongly suggested to local facilities to kill the cholera pathogen with chlorine. Because chlorination by-products or THMs increase the risk of cancer, local officials in Peru and other countries were resistant to use chorine.

A total of 703 cancer cases per year, estimated by Researchers in Canada, have been caused by exposure to THMs. On the other hand, between the months of January and February in Peru in 1991, 10,000 people died from cholera.

THMs do increase the risk of cancer and everyone should consider having a showerhead and drinking water filters to reduce the risk. But, we can’t petition the government agencies to stop chlorinating the water, because it isn’t practical or objective.

Chlorine is used nearly everywhere and government agencies try to control the amount of exposure as much as possible, but in reality no other disinfection method is as effective as chlorine. Buying a drinking water filter that removes chlorine and THMs is the sensible solution.

If treatment facilities do not add chlorine, algae will begin to grow in the pipes. Algae itself will affect the taste of water, but microorganisms that cause cholera and other waterborne illnesses would begin to flourish among the algae. I mention this in case you were wondering why treatment facilities couldn’t use carbon filtration to remove the chlorine as the water leaves the facility.

Another recent study warns that the risk to those who swim in chlorinated pools, combined with exposure at home from drinking and showering, is “unacceptable” and “something should be done”. Why don’t they just advise swimmers to get showerhead and drinking water filters?

The water treatment facilities in the US are required to publish an annual water quality report. The Environmental Protection Agency asks them to include on the list chlorine, chloramines and THMs.

They began to require facilities to do this report after a California study showed that women who drink five or more glasses a day of regular tap water have a higher rate of miscarriage, possibly due to chlorine. Why don’t they just suggest that pregnant women get a drinking water filter? A filter is less expensive than prenatal vitamins and it’s a reasonable solution that could achieve healthy results right away.

Scientists want you to be aware of the risks and government officials expect you to make your own decisions. It just seems so logical to me, so go ahead you can get the best drinking water filters on the market for less than $125 and showerhead units cost even less. Don’t you think your family’s health is worth the investment?

Dr. Buttar recommends the Wellness Filter.
